English Literature

The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald
1. Re-read the chapters we’ve studied in class. Update your vocabulary list (add all the words you don’t know and write out their definitions in your notebook).
2. Write a short essay (150 to 200 words) describing Tom Buchanan. How does the author portray Tom through his relationships with the other characters in the novel (his wife, Nick Carraway, etc.)? Give examples from the text.

History

Read Topic 3 and do all the exercises relating to Topic 3 in your History of the Development of Medicine Workbook.

Geography

Argentina: prepare for a test (in the week of 08 to 12 March).

English Literature

Update your vocabulary lists for ‘The Great Gatsby’. Notebooks will be checked for this in the first week of January.

Write an essay (minimum 250-350 words) based on the theme given in class (’If I Could Teach One thing it Would be……..). Give it your own title. Use your English dictionary. IMPORTANT: Spend time researching and structuring what you’re going to write but write the essay, in longhand, within the set period (45 minutes for the ‘3èmes’, 65 minutes for the ‘4èmes’).

History-Geography

Using the illustrations in your copy of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ write at least three paragraphs about how people dressed in Europe at the end of the 16th century. Mention historical differences compared to the 21st century. Look for details in clothing based on rank and gender in Shakespeare’s day.

Geography

Reminder re-presentations not yet done: start your research during the vacation. No changes in individual dates or topics.

Using the concept of a global village studied in class, whittle down (to create percentages based on one hundred people) the human geography statistics for any city or country of your choice (use the Internet or a library for information on population, birthrate etc. Write your own conclusions in your notebook.
