1. Prepare for a history test based on Henry 1V, Part 1.
To do this: a) revise Acts 1 and 2 of the play b) reread the commentary and the historical background notes in your book and c) think about the following themes using Shakespeare’s depiction of characters (how they behave/what they say..):
i) power struggles in early fifteenth century England, Scotland and Wales.
ii) the coming-of-age of Prince Hal. Can you see any parallels between this fifteenth century heir to the throne and growing up in the present day ( a universal father-son theme..)?
iii) the lives of ordinary people: the working conditions of men and women as depicted in the tavern scenes.
